London's renowned restaurant BAO has introduced its groundbreaking app, "BAOverse," in partnership with HATO and its Not in Game platform. Established in 2015, BAO transcends the conventional Taiwanese-style restaurant by incorporating eccentric design aesthetics and innovative dining concepts, complemented by a network of establishments tailored to fulfil a distinctive function relevant to their respective locales. BAOverse, an uncommon business, seeks to "game-ify" the dining experience through a pioneering app that connects offline and online interactions.

Upon entering BAOverse, players will be greeted by a vibrant city depicted in the brand's distinctive retro pixel graphics and game aesthetics. Users can choose iconic BAO characters to explore while accumulating BAOcoins. The currency is applicable for in-app purchases that may be redeemed in real life, ranging from complimentary cocktails to bypassing crowded waits. This interface features each physical BAO restaurant and its Convni online shop, allowing customers to dine and shop.

BAO’s Co-founder Shing Tat Chung articulates that “The challenge of integrating digital experiences and technology with physical restaurants lies in the potential detriment to the user’s experience and enjoyment; however, this illustrates how a digital experience can enhance the pleasure of dining and strengthen customer relationships.”

Chung articulates that the aspiration for BAOverse is to ensure a seamless transition of the physical BAO experience into the digital realm. For instance, when a user acquires a T-shirt from the Convni store in the physical realm, we are endeavouring to ensure that this transaction is mirrored in the app, allowing their avatar in the BAOverse to don a digital counterpart instantaneously. I am especially enthusiastic that the app provides prizes for dining alone.

In commemoration of the debut and the Lunar New Year, the app will feature digital Lucky Red Envelopes containing exclusive gifts. The software is presently available exclusively on iOS, with an Android version anticipated later this year. Visit BAO's website for further information and explore the new BAOverse app available on the App Store.
