Following cuisine, design is one of the most critical elements in establishing a restaurant. The Danish design and architecture firm, Johannes Torpe Studios, excels in creating unique atmospheres, as demonstrated in its recent project for the Copenhagen restaurant, Levi.

The restaurant's remarkable design, which harmoniously integrates Italian and Japanese elements, is immediately notable. From a culinary perspective, the restaurant presents Italian cuisine infused with Japanese elements, hence it was logical for the design to reflect this fusion. “In designing the restaurant, we aimed to establish an atmosphere that honours the structure and conveys a visual narrative that mirrors the cuisine offered,” states Johannes Torpe.

The restaurant features a bespoke U-shaped bar with a Verdi Alpi marble countertop and decorative lights, complemented by custom-designed hardware, embodying a basic yet sophisticated aesthetic. Distinctive features of Johannes Torpe Studios' work include bespoke furniture, terrazzo flooring, brushed larch wood, amber-toned curtains, and ornamental chrome lighting.

In every reputable Milanese restaurant, one invariably commences at the bar with an aperitif. Subsequently, you have your supper and find yourself at the bar with an espresso and a grappa. "We aimed for the bar to serve as a visually striking feature that embodies the narrative of Old Milan," stated Torpe. A pub where one can dine, imbibe or simply relish a €2 espresso on the move, akin to the experience in Italy.
