The New Pizza Spot: Bad Boy Pizzeria, Bethnal Green

Pizzerias are proliferating rapidly in London, and this August marks the much anticipated inauguration of Bad Boy Pizza Society. Founded by four friends as a satirical organization at the University of Southampton, BBPS originated as a center focused on pizza-related endeavors, providing exclusive discounts for students. However, the creators soon commenced producing their own pizzas, initially selling them at local house parties and subsequently through a delivery service during the lockdown. Following multiple pop-ups and having secured the National Pizza of the Year award on two occasions, the crew is establishing a permanent location in Bethnal Green. New York-style pizza is prominent, accompanied by other Italian-American dishes such as chicken vodka parmesan, large shared Caesar salad, and deep-fried burrata in hot marinara. Patrons may sample BBPS' exclusive lager and approachable wines. The restaurant will have subdued lighting and a cozy atmosphere, with bar seating that allows patrons to observe the chefs at work. Attend during the inaugural weekend to receive a 50 percent discount on food, along with a complimentary beer.

The Revamped Pub: The Macbeth, Hackney

The Macbeth is a Hackney establishment with a history exceeding a century, recently gaining recognition for its live music events, with performances by artists like as Florence + The Machine. This August, food is set to assume a more significant role due to a relaunch led by London-based chef Jaime Allan, renowned for managing The Plimsoll in Finsbury Park. He is collaborating with buddy Patrick Nolan to inaugurate a new chapter for The Macbeth, emphasizing small plates inspired by Portugal's tascas (small, family-owned eateries), with food available until 11 PM. Although a menu has not been released, it is reported that items such as chicken samosas, pork and cheese rolls, and snail rice would be included. The pub will exhibit a revitalized appearance, preserving its historical characteristics while enhancing it with modern elements, such as an English oak bar.

The Steakhouse: The Black Cow Steakhouse at The Stage, Shoreditch

The Black Cow initially launched in Camden earlier this year, but it is now relocating to Shoreditch, occupying the site of the former Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre. Situated in the appropriately titled apartment complex The Stage, the restaurant integrates the conventional steakhouse concept with Middle Eastern flavors, such as harissa, za’atar, and preserved lemon. The meal will commence with tiny sharing plates of cornbread accompanied by lamb butter, and lamb merguez corn dog with labneh, followed by the main course: top cuts of steak, including picanha, T-bone, and onglet, grilled on the Josper grill and presented tableside with flaming herbs. This can be complemented with cocktails such as the Ottoman Martini, crafted with vodka, Kahlua, and Turkish coffee, as well as wine from obscure suppliers. Founders Shiri Kraus and Amir Batito have highlighted the venue’s theatrical origins with an open kitchen and a private dining area named The Back Stage, which is accessed through opulent velvet curtains.

The High-End Spanish Restaurant: Legado, Shoreditch

Following her upbringing in Bilbao, chef Nieves Barragán relocated to London, establishing her reputation as the executive chef at the esteemed Spanish restaurant Barrafina. In 2018, she established the Mayfair tapas bar Sabor, which subsequently received a Michelin star. Consequently, expectations are elevated for her forthcoming exhibition, Legado, which translates as 'legacy' in Spanish. In partnership with JKS Restaurants, the creators of popular venues such as Gymkhana, Legado will present lesser-known traditional foods from several regions of Spain, including the Basque Country and Mallorca. Ingredients will be essential to the menu, emphasizing whole animal butchery, including ham from Señorío de Montanera, a firm that specializes in 100 percent Iberian pigs that graze freely. Seafood will prominently feature, including Mediterranean paprika-spiced prawns, lobster with chili and garlic, and a grilled catch of the day accompanied by Ajada sauce from Galicia. Additional highlights will feature the Legado Sandwich, crafted over a two-day process with Swiss chard, smoked cheese, and Cecina, a variety of salted and dried Spanish pork. An exclusive Spanish wine list will be available, along with a variety of vegetable and fruit-based drinks presented in custom ceramics. On warmer days, the outside terrace is expected to be frequented, providing tapas and pintxos all day long.

The Burger Joint: Junk Burger, Marylebone

Smash burgers represent a prominent culinary trend, exemplified by contemporary establishments such as Junk Burger, a French import that commenced operations in Soho last year. The venture has achieved significant success, prompting the creators to inaugurate a second location in Marylebone. Opening this August on St Christopher’s Place, the burger establishment will provide the identical menu as the original in Soho: brioche buns loaded with UK-sourced meats, cheese, and the famous house sauce, as well as a vegetarian option. Burgers vary from the standard M to the colossal XXL, featuring an impressive five beef patties, accompanied by fries.
