Restaurant Endorsed by Gordon Ramsay to Launch at Le Gavroche Site

Matt Abé is launching his first establishment at the famous Mayfair site.. The superchef has inaugurated five new high-altitude establishments at 22 Bishopsgate and has also obtained a 15-year lease for a new restaurant at the location of Le Gavroche in Mayfair.

The new Upper Brook Street restaurant, scheduled to debut later this year, will be led by Ramsay's protégé, Australia-born Matt Abé, who is presently the chef patron at the three Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. This is Abé's inaugural solo endeavor, following 18 years of ascending the hierarchy at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, where he commenced his career at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s at the age of 21.

He characterized the chance to establish his own restaurant as 'a dream realized,' expressing gratitude to Ramsay for his assistance and 'the confidence he has demonstrated in me.'

Le Gavroche was one of London’s most renowned restaurants for 56 years till its closure in January 2024, under the stewardship of Michel Roux Jr. A succession of distinguished chefs has occupied the kitchen over the years, including Ramsay, who served as a commis chef at Le Gavroche under the late Albert Roux in the 1980s.

“Le Gavroche evokes remarkable memories from the outset of my career,” stated Ramsay. “Upon learning that the property would become available, it seemed the opportune moment to assist Matt and complete the journey with a restaurant I cherished deeply.”

The specifics about the name, concept, and menu remain undisclosed. “This narrative now belongs to Matt,” Ramsay informed the Standard. “I am confident that additional news will emerge shortly.”

The restaurant is scheduled to debut later this year at 43 Upper Brook Street, Mayfair, W1K 7QR.
